AI-Assisted Writing & Editing

In this workshop, participants learn a proven framework for writing and editing their work—with help from generative AI. We’ll follow the outline of our most-requested signature workshop, with guidance at each step on how to work effectively with gen AI as a planning, drafting, and revising partner.

This workshop is appropriate for attendees who are actively using AI or experimenting for the first time during the workshop. Over 3 hands-on sessions, participants will practice using gen AI for audience awareness, tone of voice, prompt engineering, and more. We will focus our sentence-level edits on stylistic hallmarks of AI-generated copy.

Inside the Workshop

1st part

Ground rules for writing with gen AI • Ethics, accuracy, and privacy.

The “ART” of audience awareness • Plan for your document’s Audience, Result, and Tone with gen AI.

Voice and tone analysis • Use gen AI to analyze the style of a person or brand.

2nd part

Prompt engineering • Useful prompts are a paragraph, not a couple of words; learn two approaches to prompting for better gen AI output.

Information design • Only in our signature workshops: format your writing to keep readers engaged.

The workshop is highly interactive. With Zoom as our preferred platform, we use polling, chat, discussion, breakout rooms, and application to keep participants engaged and on their toes. Participants bring a piece of their own writing and work on it during the workshop.

3rd part

“Bold Type facilitated their Writing and Editing training for 30 of our staff members. Both Casey and Grace were incredibly easy to work with, and they intentionally catered the workshop to our needs. Several months later and our staff is still actively using the strategies learned in their daily communication to our partners and program participants.”
